A lone leopard strayed into Mandwari village near Badwani in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday and ran away after attacking a few villagers.
As the villagers armed with sticks and iron rods chased the animal, it fell into a well.
The leopard tried its best to keep itself afloat from drowning, but the villagers , determined to kill him, threw stones and bricks, and drowned it nside the well.
All this happened in the presence of wilife department staff, who stood as mute spectators.
The villagers later posed for photographs in front of the leopard's carcass.
