More than 5.6 lakh candidates appeared today for the IIT Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) as compared to 4.6 lakh who took the exam last year.
The exam was held at 1,067 centres across the country for admission to nearly 9,618 undergraduate seats in 15 IITs, IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad.
IIT Delh organized JEE 2012 which is probably going to be the last exam in this pattern.
The HRD ministry is planning to introduce a national common examination for admission to all central-level engineering institutes like IITs from next year.
