Asian stock markets rose Friday, with traders viewing an uptick in U.S. housing sales as a fresh sign of recovery in the world’s No. 1 economy.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 index rose less than 0.1 percent to 9,571.89 ahead of the Bank of Japan’s policy-setting meeting. Investors are hoping the central bank will increase its bond-buying program to support the country’s economy.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 0.5 percent to 20,902.65 and South Korea’s Kospi added 0.5 percent to 1,973.12.
