Recalled fast bowler Mark Gillespie took five wickets for 59, but heavy hitting by A.B. de Villiers and Morne Morkel helped South Africa build a 68-run first-innings lead over New Zealand by tea on the second day of the second cricket test Friday.
De Villiers made 83 and Morne Morkel, batting No. 10, hit an unbeaten 35 from 44 balls as South Africa escaped from 88-6 to reach 253, easily surpassing New Zealand’s first innings of 185.
