Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi today asserted that the recent Assembly poll results would not damage the UPA government at the centre, and the party would try to analyze the reasons behind the debacle.
Speaking to mediapersons after a prolonged gap, Sonia Gandhi admitted that pricerise could be one of the factors for the debacle.
On the poll debacle, she said: "There are a number of reasons. One, wrong choice of candidates. I wouldn't say that was the only reason, but it resulted in rebel candidates contesting. As far as Punjab is concerned, we did have better prospects. In fact, PPP damaged us more than the Akali Dal in at least 23 seats."
