Scotland striker Kris Boyd scored the decisive goal as the Portland Timbers won their opening home game 3-1 over the Philadelphia Union on Monday night.
Boyd's first Major League Soccer goal came from Kalif Alhassan's cross and broke a 1-1 scoreline in the 66th minute.
Alhassan scored in the 76th minute to extend the eventual margin to two goals.
