The attorney for a soldier accused of killing 16 civilians in Afghanistan said Friday the suspect is 38-year-old Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales.
He was being flown from Kuwait to a maximum-security military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The military had earlier declined to name the suspect.
