Michael Clarke scored a century in an unbeaten 199-run partnership with Ricky Ponting as Australia seized control on day 2 of the second test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Clarke notched his 18th test hundred with a cover driven boundary in the last over before lunch Wednesday and was not out 103 as Australia reached the interval at 236-3, a 45-run first-innings lead. Ponting was unbeaten on 97.
Ponting brought up his third consecutive half-century of the series after scores of 62 and 60 in Australia's 122-run win in the first test at Melbourne. At the break, he was just one stroke from reaching his 40 test century — and his first in two years.
