Elections to the 196 MunicipalCouncils in Maharashtra will be held on December 8, the State Election Commission announced.
The tenure of most of the Municipal Councils and Municipal Panchayats was due to end between December 2011 and February 2012 and therefore the elections of these civic bodies has been scheduled for December 8, State Election Commissioner Neela Satyanarayan told reporters here today. She said since Latur and Chandrapur Municipal Councils have been upgraded to Municipal Corporations, there will be no election in these two present Municipal Councils.
