Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith made half-centuries in a 142-run partnership to lay the foundation for South Africa’s imposing 303-6 in the second one-day international against Australia on Sunday.
Kallis made 76 and opener Smith hit 57 to resurrect South Africa’s innings in a must-win game for the host after captain Hashim Amla was out off the first ball of the match.
Four South African batsmen made half-centuries, cashing in on a rare poor fielding display from No. 1-ranked Australia—which gave away 28 runs in extras and missed run-out opportunities.
