A police constable and a criminal were killed in an encounter in Adityapur adjoining the Steel City on Sunday.
Jharkhand Police assisted by Tiger Mobile force accosted the criminals after which firing ensued. Police constable Raju Singh was killed on the spot and in a return fire, Ravi Singh Munda, a local criminal was killed, said Navin Singh, DIG, Kolhan Range.
Ten days ago, six prisoners including two Maoists and three criminals had escaped from Saraikela Jail and some of them had come to Adityapur, police said.
