Mahtab Ahmed of UP's backwater Kannauj district was fortunate enough to get the much sought after admission to B. Tech 1st Year course this July, but after he joined IIT Kanpur, his woes began.
On Thursday evening, when Mahtab's friends knocked at the door of Room No D-307 in Hall No 9, they found the door locked from inside. When Mahtab didn't respond after a long time, they broke open the door and found Mahatab's limp body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Mahtab hadn't left any suicide note, but on the wall he had written in bold letters: "I am tired of IIT".
Says Sanjay Govind Dhade, IIT Kanpur director: "The student guide tried to help him a lot. Soon after joining IIT, Mahtab used to say that he disliked the atmosphere here."
