Diego Simeone has been appointed coach of Racing Club, taking over a team he coached five years ago to begin his career on the bench.
The former Argentina midfielder, who played for 15 years in Spain and Italy, was announced Tuesday as the replacement for Miguel Russo, who resigned last week after the Buenos Aires club stumbled to a mid-table finish.
Simeone, who recently left Serie A club Catania, has coached two Argentine clubs to titles—River Plate and Estudiantes. He also had a stint with Buenos Aires club San Lorenzo.
