The Anantapur police on Saturday night seized Rs 35.23 lakh cash from a Bangalore-bound Qualis car and has taken the driver Harish Ananad Shetty into custody.
Shetty told the police that the money was being transported to Bangalore for building of a Maha Samadhi in Puttaparthi.
Shetty told police the cash was brought from Prashanti Nilayam, headquarters of the late Sathya Sai Baba.
Shetty had no documents to buttress his claim, police said. The cash was recovered during the check of the vehicle (HP-66-099) on AP-Karnataka border at Kadikonda checkpost.
