Mumbai, Nov 5: Music legend Bhupen Hazarika passed away today in Kokilaben Ambani hospital after fighting a long battle with death. He was 85.
A poet, musician, singer, actor, journalist and filmmaker Hazarika was awarded Indian film industry’s highest honour Dadasaheb Phalke award and Padma Bhushan.
Kalpana Lajmi, a companion of Hazarika for 39 years, was at his bedside when the singer breathed his last. The singer was battling for life after both his kidneys stopped functioning recently.He has been put on dialysis since then.
Politicians from Assam, actors,singers and his relatives had been visiting Hazarika one after the other and enquiring about his health.

Bhupen da was not only a singer,a great lyricist-who wrote songs on each and every emotion, feeling and situation of human life, a great music composer, a great film director , a great laureate and a great humanitarian.. he sang for the people. His was the voice of the masses..his voice had the depth of the ocean..a doctorate from columbia university ,a wandering vagabond artist , his songs are truly a subject for research. We pay tribute to him..he shall remain in our hearts forever and ever...h cannot die
