In Varun Gandhi's constituency, Dalit safai mazdoors are up in arms over the suicide of a chowkidar Jograj in the police station premises. They are demanding the arrest of SHO Kanhaiyalal Sonkar and sub-inspector Sher Khan.
Jograj worked as a chowkidar in Diyuria police station and had been honoured for being an honest employee by a previous SP in Pilibhit.
The SHO asked him to do domestic work at his home, and upon his refusal, the former blamed him for a theft of Rs 1,000.
SHO Sonkar and SI Sher Khan then proceeded to thrash Jog Raj black and blue, and threw him into the lockup. The next morning, Jog Raj, his body full of bruises, could not bear the insult and hanged himself from a tree.
