17-year-old Dheer was drowned in the river Gomti here on Thursday after he agreed to a wager with his friends.
Dheer, a student of Class XI, left home for school, but instead he and two of his friends went to the river Gomti, where his friends challenged him for a swim to the middle of the river, write their names on a pillar and return.
Both his friends returned, while Dheer, caught in a deep current, was drowned.
