Heavy Rains Cripple Life In Mumbai

Heavy downpour in Mumbai brought life to an almost standstill on Thursday night, as thundershowers lashed several parts of the city.

Parel, Kurla, Deonar, Ghatkopar, and many other low-lying areas were waterlogged and traffic came to a halt.

Suburban rail services on both Western and Central Railway were delayed but the services were restored on Friday morning when the weather cleared a bit.

The rains started around 9 pm, and within an hour places around Chembur recorded 50 mm rainfall. Khar, Santacruz, Malad and Kandivali were also drenched.

Civic officials say the high tide that began at 10.21 pm compounded the problem of flooding.

Several motorists were stranded below the newly-constructed Lalbaug Flyover due to waterlogging.
