Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today described police action against Baba Ramdev as an “unpardonable crime” even as widespread protests were reported from across the state over the incident.
He said Ramdev’s agitation, irrespective of party affiliations, had the backing of the common man. “The Central government should not make efforts to impose Emergency again.”
Meanwhile, several women who participated in “Satyagraha” at Freedom Park here yesterday to express solidarity with Baba wept over the incident.
Protests in many district headquarters, including Mysore, Tumkur, Bagalkore, Gadag, Gulbarga and Chikamagalur were spearheaded by “Pathanjali Yoga Trust”, “Bharath Swabhiman Trust”, BJP and Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
Protesters took to the streets in the state, forming human chains in Gulbarga, performing “Homa” in Bidar and “Yoga” in Chikmagalur and also burnt effigies of key figures in the UPA government at some places, raising slogans against the Centre and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. PTI
